JOHNNY Heartbreak & The Teardrops, surely not..? And yet this most unlikely of bands has been bubbling under for a few years now, waiting for the right moment to get into the Limelight and the Studio. Their first gig supporting 'Ralph of the Arb at the Beer Engine, Devon in New Year 1993 sparked Johnny into action. In 1995, the Heartbreaks came joint first in the EXETER Battle of the Bands competition winning recording time at Crazy Cat Studios with producer Rik Wolkers.
From this session and from the man who founded the Crown of the Hill Studio in Crediton, Devon now comes a band with a barrage of new material. PETE POPERT takes a break from his usual gigging band 'the Amphibians' to bring two new songs to the Well's Vision CD, 'Zanzibar' and 'Beautiful Companion'. In this case accompanied by JANN NAEF and BRAHAN SPEIRS the other two key members behind the HEARTBREAKS, both of whom can boast long and illustrious musical careers.
The drive behind this new band comes from a musical fusion of many different influences, the rhythm section of the band features ANDREW REED and JORDAN CUMES, the latter of which has taken a change from his usual skin beating to demonstrate a subtler side to his nature. ANDREW REED on Guitar and the backing section of KERRY, HELEN & SAM complete the musical menagerie.
Although for the present it will be unlikely to find the band gigging (most of the members are tied up with other musical commitments). Pete, Brahan and Jann in conjunction with established director IAN TRAFFORD are hoping to bring the Heartbreak story to the stage. Watch this space for further details.
